If you thought dating apps tried their damnedest to make sure you don’t find a human match, just wait until things like Replika really kick off.
You’re gonna see these companies do everything they can to make a real relationship nigh impossible because their business model demands it.
Didn’t anyone listen to Sex Education on Futurama!?
Don’t. Date. Robots!
I guess that would only happen you don’t step out of your room and social. How counld they prevent one steping outside and say hello to anyone?
Hadn’t thought of this. I wonder how they would tread what you’d think would be a thin line. Or are lonely people that credulous? On the other hand being provided your perfect match during the trial period and falling in love with this corporate entity which you are then made to pay for access to? Dystopian.
People tell themselves sweet lies about the real people they love as it is.
And sometimes those people you’ve lied to yourself about reveal themselves as not really caring much for you.
As sad as it is, yes, I think a lot of lonely people would pay a premium to avoid having to search for that person who accepted them for their flaws, especially since this partner will not also demand any growth on the part of their human. Most partners also want personal growth and forward movement in life, while a “perfect partner” won’t ask for anything in return but will always have new hot “skins” for a low price in their store. In fact, that’s probably where the conniving shit would come in, because why promote healthy personal growth when you can promote addiction that makes you money?
Rejection and personal growth is hard, and this company is essentially selling a way out of that. (Not to imply those are the only reasons people pursue this, I just see a lot of people who would rather avoid any real responsibility to anyone else but still feel loved. I’m sure there’s some broken, lonely people who really need something like this in a good way, in a non-exploitative way.)
Yeh a symptom of consumerism being (or pretending to be) the antidote to everything. A solution can always be purchased.
The future of AI is people waking up to the complete pile of hype we have been exposed to.
