I’m a bit at a lost for words here. That is way beyond what I was expecting.

It’s regulatory capture. They scream about how it’s super dangerous for three years. The politicians get lobbied so the public is “protected”, then open source models (especially the evil Chinese ones) are banned and high end models are only allowed through subscription services.

I understand they have limits, but so do regular people. You don’t need to be an expert on a subject to hold a conversation about it.

They aren’t intelligent and all that, and make the stupidest mistakes but they can more or less hold a convo just as well as the average rando on the internet.

Let’s say I give you a discord link and tell you that half the people are bots and half aren’t. Realistically, LLMs are at a level where you won’t be able to tell which is which.

So what then. You are only having a conversation half the time but you can’t point out when that is? Feels a bit hollow.

This probably happens on Lemmy. You probably have interactions that you qualify as conversations in your head but that are with bots.

My issue is more about not calling it music. Imo, if it’s groovy and my brain enjoys it, it’s music.

There’s some music I seriously don’t enjoy as well but I still consider it music because someone does.

That being said, I don’t label AI stuff as “made”. I’m quick with making the distinction when sharing with friends and stuff. I agree with that part. Although it becomes blurry at times. Making something with samples is still making it, what about making it with AI generated samples? I don’t consider it stealing in any case, much too transformative imo.

I think we should separate the platforms but I’m not sure where certain things should land. It’s all music for me though.

I don’t think it belongs on platforms like Deezer but it’s silly to not call it music.You can hate how it’s made but the bar for something to be music isn’t dependant on the fact. Downvote me I guess.

I messed around with udio for a bit. What surprised me most is actually how easy it was to blend stuff together and have it sound fun. It does stuff that isn’t cookie cutter pretty well.

I think where it’s going to hit hard is in terms of personalisation. It’s nice that I can turn a song with a unique style into essentially a whole album of it. I also had a lot of fun writing my own lyrics. It hits harder when I wrote it and it’s specifically about my experiences, as well as listening to something close to professional quality, but it’s basically only for me.

It’s like having your own personal band waiting on you.

Same thing my grand father says about EDM. Personally, if I can tap my feet to it, it’s music. I doubt you would be able to tell the difference in a blind test in any case.

Not sure what you mean by this tbh. The client list in relation to the product? Do you mean the source code leak? That’s a bit what I mean by it not being safe for everything and trying to build a house out of 3d printed bricks. I’m not even certain the code leak was caused by AI generated code anyways.

I personally only build small internal apps for the rest of the team. We don’t ship software.

Granted, every tool has its use and most can be used for the wrong thing if you try hard enough. It’s also easier to use it for the wrong thing with AI, has to be said.

That’s kind of a point for it? If the code isn’t the product, then it doesn’t matter who made it if the product is built properly. And sota models certainly know where to put the nails.

A better analogy would be a 3d printer. Much quicker than carving stuff out of wood. Might fail a print but it’s still faster. It’s not exactly food safe so avoid using it for something important. Obviously, it works well for small things but trying to build a house out of 3d printed bricks is going to yield failure.

If scrapping YouTube is against the law, that just means Google owns all video generation as well as anything to do with speech for the most part. Whisper was built mainly on YouTube vids.

Everyone is quick to judge but no one has asked themselves if this is for the sexy ads. This could make things a lot easier.

I mean a loss for meta is technically a win for everyone most of the time but I’d expect more pragmatism in this case.

None of that matter if, right now, you are cheering on copyright laws. There’s no reason to stop promoting change now.

Encouraging laws you don’t like does nothing but cement them. We are currently, as a society, begging lawmakers for harder copyright laws.

I get the Justice system sucks but making the wrong laws stronger does not make it better.

Think about what you are saying is all, you tend to write long elaborate speeches on why copyright deserves to win. There is being critical of AI, and then there’s being a mouthpiece for copyright companies. I’m not trying to be mean here, sorry.

We don’t get better laws if everyone is cheering for the copyright industry. Everything after your first point goes against that. Goliath, the same one that beat up Aaron, finally has a match in his own weight category, and you are hoping he wins basically.
