I realize now that the Intel 2.5gbe nics have issues, so is there anything I could do to get it to play nice, or does anyone know of a solid low profile 2.5gbe nic I could use without breaking the bank?

You answered your own question. As you said, most smart TVs go into a sleep mode, so they appear to turn on in a near instant. But if you ever actually power it down, most take up to a minute to boot up.
