Just because an LLM seems smart to a senile asshole who has illusions of “being intelligent” because he managed not to fail a dementia test, it is not “intelligent”. And not “superintelligent” either.
It’s literally intelligent in scientific definition.
We’ve had ANI (Artificial Narrow Intelligence) for a long time. But words have different meanings, and when the layperson uses intelligence, it’s not LLMs. It’s got a lot of laypersons fooled, no doubt there, but that doesn’t mean they’d consider it intelligent if they could get past their own brain fooling them by the presentation. Once you see how it makes mistakes, you realize that it’s not. It’s useful as a tool if used correctly, but so is a hammer.
