1·8 months agoI’ve never had a pc get to 10 years old before upgrading. I fully expect my MacBook to meet my needs (which don’t include rending animations or editing video) for the rest of my life (I’m 65) OR at least 10 years.

144·9 months agoIt’s hard for people who haven’t experienced the loss of experts to understand. Not a programmer but I worked in aerospace engineering for 35 years. The drive to transfer value to execs and other stakeholders by reducing the cost of those who literally make that value always ends costing more.

10·9 months agoI made the switch too! I bought a MacBook! After 40 years of MS OSes, Outlook-online and Windows 11 made me quit. And so far so good!
I’m way past making a living in tech, and so far (5 months) my MacBook is delivering a very satisfactory user experience. I’m not thrilled with the “radical” changes coming to MacOs, but I don’t have that much invested in the current version to fret over it. So far the biggest controversy about the new OS is how the finder icon swapped colours. I can live with that! I considered and tried some Linux distros over the past few years, but there was too much intervention required by me, the user. The “Total Recall” vibe of Windows 11 pushed me over the line.
