I’m just this guy, you know? Except on Lemmy.

Learning this fact is what got me to finally dockerize my setup
As soon as I pay for it it becomes my phone, not Apple’s.
And since it’s just a computer I should be allowed to put whatever software I want on it.
Because it’s mine.
I guess appliance engineers are just stupid and bad at their jobs.
Which is my point. Devs know they’re susceptible and want to avoid the propaganda.
It’s the same reason most of them block ads.
Which is why developers don’t want to talk to a salesperson and would rather just try the tool.
But the article’s not talking about social humans. It’s talking about developers, probably the most antisocial humans to exist.
Because it’s a Unix machine with support for business software.
In the past the people who knew about tech were promoting new things and the people who didn’t were skeptical.
With AI the people with less technical knowledge are gung ho and the ones who understand are skeptical.
Which is why I threw up in my mouth a little when my boss said we all need to be more bullish on AI this morning.
I was at a tech conference in Raleigh right after the announcement and the Red Hat folks were bummed.
I’ve worked in enterprise software the better part of a decade and if there were security concerns about container escapes they wouldn’t be so widely used.
Maybe not eye tracking, but probably head tracking.
Good. I hate the global economy.
And maybe if the western countries had a lick of sense it wouldn’t end up this way. But we got addicted to cheap plastic crap and let the Chinese leapfrog us.
Because if we’d left decarbonization to the west it would never have happened.
I never wrote that.
But if a side effect of utterly dominating the west in decarbonizing has the side effect of saving the climate I’m not gonna complain.
What goalpost did I move? You said they’d be built with slave labor which means they’ll still be cheaper, right? And in the meantime we decarbonize huge segments of the global economy.
Don’t be mad just cause western countries wanted to take advantage of slave labor as usual and are getting bitten in the ass because of their greed, or that West Taiwan is doing it better.
So the Chinese tech will still be cheaper.
Gee, maybe sending almost all our manufacturing to another country was a stupid fucking idea
Then maybe western companies can finally compete with them despite being ruled by obligate capitalists.
Which sounds like a good idea for everybody. Maybe other countries should do the same thing.
I’m no fan of West Taiwan but they’re doing a lot more to decarbonize than most other major economies.
Chinese carbon emissions may have peaked this year and they’ve deployed more renewables than the rest of the world combined.
You can customize and debug pretty easily, I’ve found. You can create your own Dockerfile based on one you’re using and add customizations there, and
exec
will get you into the container.
