I do have a feeling cell phones have made more kids worse since we were in school. I can actively feel my attention spam getting worse from the clip nature of news, short form content on the internet, and endless scroll content of sites like Reddit or even here on Lemmy. And I used to be a good student who read constantly, now it’s just basically my phone lol.

Seems like a good compromise. The idea of the rule is probably just so they won’t have them out anyway.

It’s not China actively manipulating things. It’s the algorithm that was getting gamed by the right wing. It’s not like the Cambridge Analytica scandal where Facebook was working directly with companies that were trying to get Trump elected. It’s more like the pipeline on YouTube, where it’s just algorithms funneling people into what’s popular ends up being gamed by conservative people. In the US, Tik Tok was known for helping the “woke left”, so obviously it’s not the same big conspiracy controlling both.

The thing is, it can also be used for good in that it can show people things like what’s happening in Palestine without being censored by the US, like other US controlled social media has been.

So have Muslims and Christians. Doesn’t give them the right to kill all the other people and take their land. Not to mention everything they do to encourage settler colonialism, like giving settlers a free pass from Europe or the US to come in and take homes from natives in the area. You can find so many examples of random people from Germany or New York who show up and are given a house that belonged to some Palestinian family for generations.

South Africa pulled it off. But yes, it basically required dismantling the state completely from what it was. South Africa as it existed before and after apartheid are essentially different states with the same name. They got a new Constitution and everything. They still have a lot of problems with the white population having a majority of the land and money, but there’s nowhere near the violence there was beforehand. Everyone mostly lives in peace together now. It can be done. The same thing happened with the IRA in the UK.

We would need to do the same thing. Dismantle Israel completely down to its roots, build something new in the same place from scratch, a place for both Palestinians and Israelis can live together. Some people would be pissed and there’d be some trouble in the beginning, but most people want to live in peace.

That’s why they wanted to get rid of Tik Tok. They can’t control its output as much to keep Americans within their propaganda bubble.

Tbh, I’m loving it. I know Poe’s Law and all that, but I think they’re just sarcastic enough I can tell, but other people with those sincere beliefs can also believe them and get caught in the trap lol.

Where do you think the people who pay the creators get the money to pay them? From sales from the results of the last creators who worked for them.

The second part is probably true, but ya, also don’t encounter too many ads except for like some default game programs or something installed with the OS that are easy to remove from the Start menu and then you never see them again.
