  • I was instantly permabanned for adding RAM to my computer while having the game installed. First game I’ve ever been banned before. And instantly permanent? I would think there would be a warning at least! I wonder how many else are falsely banned… Because @kadu@lemmy.world have a point, it used to be those who cheated who complained, and this makes it difficult for a faulty cheat detection to be picked up by the devs. More so when they think “they have fixed it” after the first time a wave got falsely banned.

I spent a day really angry about it, ranting on reddit. Was pretty shocked from it. Then I calmed down and figured I didnt enjoy that game enough to take it further.

  • Thats on android only. And no, it isnt. If its a PWA then that button changes to “Install”. Which does almost the same thing as “Add to home screen” except it opens the webpage up as if it was a separate app. That means it gets its own entry in the “Recent apps” list and its own icon, and it hides the address bar.

Edit: You can test this yourself by going to lemmy.world on your phone. It is a PWA. Any website can really be a PWA, it just needs a manifest file. Lemmy.worlds manifest are available here and you can see what settings it contains.

  • I thought it obvious its a scam. The whole online ad market system is a least-effort per dollar system, automated and with everyone deflecting responsibility for what content they force on users. And the whole “internet today wouldn’t work without ads, so we have to accept it” propaganda. It isn’t designed with honesty in mind. Or user safety.

Im not against advertising. Im just against these mass-advertising systems. Worst thing that has happened to the web.

  • I said I would never join facebook. Or msn messenger. Or Discord. Or Twitch. Or Twitter. But then everyone and their grandmas started using them. And despite knowing already back then they would use me as the product, I hesitantly joined.

So if they manage to release an EU-legal version, and everyone-ish joins, and mastodon becomes barren, I might join. Again. Its not like they dont know everything about me already.

The cynic in me have realized most people jumps on whatever is advertised to them and is cheap, and call anything that isnt advertised enough or too expensive for “difficult” or “looks stupid”. Those who claims ads doesn’t work on them are extra prone to jump on anything commercial while downtalking better and free’er options. So we can’t win this way.
