i read the whole article and still have no idea what this has to do with furries.

imagine if they had waited to invent lemmy until after reddit had shat the bed with the whole API fiasco. it’s better to have a backup ready to go.
i like my laptop cause i already have it, and have gotten to know it quite well over the past 16 years, but i wouldn’t recommend it. it would be nice to have more than 4gb of memory these days, cause i can’t have too many tabs open on firefox without it bogging down.
just a historical factoid that a lot of people don’t realize: the luddites weren’t anti technology without reason. they were apprehensive about new technology that threatened their livelihoods, technology that threatened them with starvation and destitution in the pursuit of profit. i think the comparison with opposition to AI is pretty apt, in many cases, honestly.
even if they were breaking tos (and i don’t think it sounds quite so cut and dry), shouldn’t the response be to notify them and allow them to fix it, or just terminate the account? demanding a ton of money to make the problem seems a skeevy way of handling it on cloudflare’s part.
would a notification work? notify-send seems like it could fit the bill.
my first time installing linux was ubuntu, because it was what i’d seen a friend using. i meant to install it to dual boot with windows, but instead ended up wiping everything from the family PC, which was very distressing, and my dad quickly reinstalled windows. this was back around '06 i think.
in '08, i first installed linux on my own system and actually got to use it. i’m not sure what i installed first, cause i did a fair bit of distrohopping, but i settled on ubuntu mate for a while.
i don’t know a single thing about whatever these things your talking about are, but i just want to say, you’re the first person i’ve ever seen suggest that edge isn’t a joke.
okay, cutting through all the chaff there, your complaint is that the AUR has more packages than NixOS, so you switched to Fedora? why not Arch, in that case?
is their some kind of TUI lemmy client you’re using then, or do you just do most of your web stuff on mobile or windows or something?
i have no idea what connection you think there is between piracy and adblockers. if anything, wouldn’t killing all adblockers encourage more piracy, not less?
idk what cloc is, but i’m guessing your client is the cause, as it reads as ‘brainfuck’ to me, no censoring.
edit: nevermind, i thought you were seeing the above commenter as censored, i hadn’t even seen it in the OP.
ooh, conspiracy stories? do tell, if you’d like. i’ve never seen conspiracy stuff in this debate, but conspiracy theories are a cognitive failure mode that fascinate me.
what you just wrote doesn’t seem to contradict what you quoted in any way. even if there haven’t been any people in the past decade who decided they prefer avoiding systemd (unlikely), there’s still that vocal minority of linux users that you yourself acknowledge, so idk why you’re posturing like you’re in a disagreement?
edit: a typo
i knew i was forgetting some other common pairings, thank you. p/q and u/v always bugged me too.
in programming, and in mathematics, it’s always been weird to me that frequently paired variables are basically the most easily confused for one another pairs, especially when written quickly or sloppily.
if learning gimp is such a roadblock then i doubt anything will seem good to you. it really sounds like you’re looking for a clone of photoshop, rather than an alternative to photoshop, and i don’t think such a thing exists. any reasonably complicated software will have a learning curve to it, so you may need to pick between continuing to use windows and photoshop, or putting more time than you’d rather into learning something new.
as to why there aren’t any clones of photoshop, i expect it is because it would be a lot of work, and they’d constantly be scrambling one step behind to implement whatever updates photoshop gets, so no matter how much effort was put into such a project, it’d still get viewed as a second rate copy of photoshop. if you want to make a graphics program, might as well focus on making it good and making it your own, rather than chasing adobe’s coat-tails, y’know?
i so seldom see anyone actually write out ‘id est’ instead of ‘i.e,’ that part of my brain insisted for a solid second that it had to be a typo lol
I say it’s not a crime. In my eyes, it isn’t 🤷. Doesn’t mean I’m right, doesn’t mean the law is on my side.
what do you think ‘crime’ means?
unless you buy a game that later adds denuvo, of course
