so many people have pressed that button

so many people have pressed that button

if working with my hands like a peasant paid what my job does, I’d do it in a heartbeat. fuck this mental exhaustion and stress, I’d rather be working the field eight hours a day for the same pay
AI is not coming for my job, which leads me to believe it’s not coming for that many other ‘skilled’ jobs

siege was pretty cool for the first two years

there’s no chance my company stops using Windows any time soon
and until then, I need MS to stop doing their goddamn best to make it impossible for me to do my job

2/3 of the voting population didn’t vote against him, btw
doesn’t really seem like “literally one person”

yeah, I actually like it now, but that’s mostly because they made the start menu so fucked up and full of shit
I’ve adjusted to just hitting start and typing the first few characters of what I want to open and slapping enter. I’m okay with that process, I actually kind of like it. I don’t need to look at what’s going on and I don’t need to move my hand over to the mouse. The only problem, and this is kind of a big thing, is that yeah it doesn’t search just my fucking installed programs, and sometimes it just opens another program that doesn’t even match what I typed. so the 60% success rate at best is kind of a big failure

One of my bosses was screen sharing with me this week and had co-pilot up in Excel. I don’t know what he was doing with it. he started fucking around with it while he was screen sharing, just doing something unrelated to what we were talking about. I know he was just trying to bait me into asking what was going on.
fuck that, I don’t care, I know you love your AI, I don’t give a shit, it’s not useful for what I do and I don’t want to talk about how it can almost do something kind of right

Microsoft removed my quick access links to my desktop folder today
why? I don’t know. I guess they want to force me to use the OneDrive desktop folder. which I do use, for shit I want synced to OneDrive. but I also have a local desktop folder I use for temp files, and fuck you very much Microsoft left me fucking use my computer how I want to
side note, I had a little program that would export a file that a user had open to their desktop in a specific format. great program, super useful for the application we were running it in, it made a multi-step process of navigating menus into a single button click. I’ve been using it for the past few years at this company. cue my surprise when some new people inform me that the button doesn’t work for them and so they haven’t been using it - BECAUSE MICROSOFT TOOK AWAY THE LOCAL USER DESKTOP FOLDER LMFAO. it blew my mind that people had to go manually create a desktop folder, I had never thought to add checking if that folder exists to the code.

I don’t want it on

this was also my thought. I don’t care what it’s designed to do - I want a goddamn off button for my car lol

how else are you going to perform, document, and communicate engineering calculations in a format that is simple, intuitive, flexible, and easy to iterate upon?

“AI” meeting transcription is pretty handy

oh honey, it’s going to be tax dollars

yep, it’s absolutely infuriating that they do that shit. you do some work around to make shit actually function, and then they just go change it on you without actually adding the functionality you needed

stop funding their bullshit

paywall

I still have a some sway at work regarding tech stuff, and I know roughly half of my team feels at least half a strongly as I do about how shitty Microsoft is. there are a couple programs for which we need to use Windows, but I could see us at least exploring how to not use windows anymore. It’s just too difficult to do our goddamn jobs

because we have a spreadsheet for group trips and I’m checking off the items I bought
why would I want to do that on a separate list and then transfer that information to the spreadsheet afterwards, when I could just do it directly?

not very convenient to use in a grocery store, though
that and headlights. noise is pollution, but blinding headlights are a more dangerous pollution (and also equally obnoxious as the noise)
