I registered and I felt the same as you. Not worth my time.
Long time linux user and tinkerer. Currently working as a devops engineer. Very positive to the idea of decentralized internet platforms. :)
I registered and I felt the same as you. Not worth my time.
I don’t use Google anymore except for Google maps in my car. :) I guess they can spy on where I’m driving. But no search history.
I don’t know about Linux being a pain in the ass. My kid was using first Linux on a laptop and then mac, and he wanted to go back to Linux where things make sense. He felt the mac was really confusing in where the files were. He also loved the integrated Software app where he can point and click install everything.
Now he is learning the terminal… :)
I think there is plenty of people who think macs are a pain in the ass too. Depends on what you are used to.
I think eventually, some people will be OK with paying 5 dollars per month for a YouTube competitor that is better than the original. Much like Kagi is doing for search engines. It won’t be for the majority since they still expect free stuff and no ads, which doesn’t work.
I’m wondering about her reason for not using one too. What is the advantage?
She thinks the web can’t exist without ads? It can, because it did once.
Just another reason to not have a YouTube account. If you use Newpipe, you can subscribe to feeds anyway without any YouTube account.
Judging from reviews, people are avoiding VW now because of really shitty infotainment systems…
But hey, richest company in the world need to eat ok?

Any big tech company will both take your money and spy on your activities.
Why are these companies the worst? It’s a honest question since I actually don’t know much about them.
Yeah I don’t know if someone posted it on reddit, could help I guess.
Elon is a brilliant man isn’t he.
A picture of people who approved so far :)
And the page with a timeline and some comments:
It’s ad blocking and entire operating systems, or computers configured in any way they don’t like.
If this goes through, they can force you to install any plugins they wish, or disable any plugins they wish. Or make sure you don’t run Linux and only Windows or Mac. They can force you to have your camera on. They can do anything since they make the rules.
No innovation will take place. Competing browsers or software will not be allowed or manipulated into marketed as “unsafe”.
This is a takeover of the open web stack as we know it.
Until they decide you can’t.
You will be really thankful for learning Linux in the future, the way big tech is going now.
And that’s exactly the point. WEI makes it a world where big tech decides if they are going to support a competing browser, a competing operating system like Linux, or plugins against ads. They can also force you to have any number of plugins installed, from their choosing.
It destroys the free web completely.
I think it’s largely because of Brendan Eich not supporting gay marriage. The browser itself seems fine to me also.
We will see. It could get picked up by some media person and made into a bigger thing. After all, many developers are approving this at a rapid pace right now, several per minute.
If I was writing an article about this as a tech journalist, I would include that x number of developers have signed a PR trying to remove this shit from chromium. It has a value as a symbolic message.
It doesnt matter if they reach any end result, as long as stocks go up and profits go up.
Consumers arent really asking for AI but its being used to push new hardware and make previous hardware feel old. Eventually everyone has AI on their phone, most of it unused.
