Linux@lemmy.ml•I'm in the process of making a distro that combines the way SteamOS makes Arch Linux stable and user-friendly WITH the performance optimizations of CachyOS
0·15 days agomy intention was for this to be the short version of Plutonium-239 so it matches better with the logo. I kind of hope for this to be colloquially refered to as just Plutonium
My first thought when I saw your domain was not plutonium-239, it was P U 239, your website doesn’t reference plutonium until 8-9 paragraphs in.

2·20 days agowill I be fine with debian or are the packages just too old?
I use Debian with a 3060ti - i9 11th gen combo, works fine, if you’re familiar with Debian then you’ll likely have an alright experience.
Make sure you don’t break Debian and you’ll be fine.
Edit: I don’t use Ai with Debian, I’d suggest learning about Docker and running it through a container.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Canadians have a historic opportunity to punch Microsoft in the face
13·27 days agoOh I know, whenever he sends out an email for an update to the web-app I react with a “😢” in outlook every time because he’ll just push updates without having anyone test them.
This is not a software company at all, lately he decided to write his own PDF editor and switch out the one he found on GitHub for it, well the folks in the shop certainly weren’t happy to find out they couldn’t print drawings anymore or that mobile devices had poor compatibility with it.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Canadians have a historic opportunity to punch Microsoft in the face
33·27 days agoI have been laughed out every time I’ve mentioned it for years.
I got approval from my managers and IT to install a Linux based OS on my work desktop, then a half-wit Windows-fanboy dev chimed in claiming our insurance would not cover the operating system if there were ever a security breach, data loss, etc. to say I was infuriated was an understatement.
All we use is a Web-App to accomplish our tasks, no in-house proprietary executables or anything along those lines, hell they claimed their Web-App wouldn’t work on Firefox browsers, which of course was a lie.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•I need a new hobby, I'm going to set up my own Lemmy instance. Am I an idiot?English
11·1 month agoI also know there is a script you can set up which will handle the initial contact to federate automatically.
I tried finding such a script but had no luck. I was able to export my subscription list from sh.itjust.works and imported it on my instance.
I had to unsubscribe and resubscribe to the communities I follow as I was experiencing the ‘Subscribe Pending’ issue but after a little while things seemed to start evening out and becoming a bit more stable.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•I need a new hobby, I'm going to set up my own Lemmy instance. Am I an idiot?English
4·1 month agoMy instance has been online for about a month, the supplied docker-compose.yaml was quite straightforward, had a little headache with Nginx but nothing overly complicated.
The long-con so to speak is federation, you have to subscribe to each community manually to begin federating with them, i have noticed timing issues with other instances such as Lemmy.world and have not been able to resolve them.
