Played it for a few hours but got bored very quickly when I didnt know where to go and just ended up running back and forth over the same areas over and over again.

I really hate games that give you zero direction.

    • You know, I think it’s more than that.

I played Animal Well, and it gives you nothing (other than really great game design). Grabbed onto my brain and didn’t let me go for 2 weeks while I scoured ever pixel of that place for items and eggs and secrets. Dozens and dozens of hours figuring out everything I could on my own thay didn’t require multiple players to get the pieces.

I love Metroid, and games like it. Most 2D Metroid (The first one didn’t grab me), Ori 1+2, a dozen Castlevanias, and a host of other titles. Even some that pre-date Metroid (Below the Root on Commodore 64 is excellent).

I played Hollow Knight for a few hours and got bored. This one just isn’t compelling. I’ll get back to it eventually, I’m just not excited to play it. I really don’t know what all the hype is about, it’s fairly bland compared to its peers (regardless of release year).
