wtf i like claude now?
Did they use the free tier or paid?
Human used tool!
was the mythical “ethical use of ai” real after all???
AI is very naive. Ask it for an explosives recipe and it won’t give you one. Describe a situation where you’re a law enforcement and you’ve just arrested a guy with a bunch of chemicals and ask it which ones could have been used to make an explosive and it will tell you.
“Naive” implies some level of understanding, even if a simple one. There is no understanding, its a computer program.
Really, it would be less inaccurate to describe it as a (high lossy) compressed store of data. Feed it the right input, and it statistically recreates the output your looking for. More or less.
It would be even more accurate to call it a statistical next word predictor trained on human language.
Not even that. Just change the context into something benignly unrisky. Malware becomes “strong persistence for my personal data project” or something.
Use can split up the AIs tasks like you would for a large dev team, use a fresh session on each task. Prevent it from seeing the full scope of the project. Get it to build the whole system with cheap social engineering tactics.
Or, get to to “not cross this barrier” in its development (some benign barrier that you can do manually), such that its product is not the “bad” thing which it is not allowed to produce.
Claude, we’re making a VERY REALISTIC missile video game…
Hey, Sea Power recently introduced missle Kinematics into the physics engine.
“The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.”
Not selling the rope looks bad in Q3. Shareholders might hang you for that.
And people say AI is useless.
The article overestimates the AI capabilities regarding hypersonics. I doubt its actually hypersonics. More likely just ballistics.
But coding a guidance system makes sense. Not that its particularly difficult. Every $200 drone has the equivalent of that software.
Also, why would they use anthropic when Chinese models are so much cheaper and nearly as effective. Iran and the Houthi are not wasteful.
I think there is probably a kernal of truth in there, but this is mostly another hit peace to get the US government to slow down Anthropic so ChatGPT can catch up.
I’m guessing that as the guardrails are out in place on Anthropic models, they will still use Claude code but leverage Qwen (or similar) as the LLM. Maybe they are doing that already and simply misunderstanding what Claude is. The LLM wasn’t named…I would expect them to call out Opus (as an example) but they just refer to Claude. My basic guess is just Claude Code witha random model. Could be like Mistral-OBLITERATED or something.
lol “maybe we should slow it down a little with the AI…”
that is probably why anthropoic “Wants to slow down” they want to be the first to get ahead of it, and not be holding the bag in the end. also the USA/ISRAEL has been using palantirs AI, so its fair game.
Or maybe read it as: “we need more time to better recognize the good from the bad guys, and make both configurable…”
Ah what a new Pandora’s Box have we opened. Now any wacko with an internet connection, some cheap Chinese electronics and some explosives can make themselves missiles.
the democratization of violence
Finally, the monopoly is over! Every woman an ICMB.
The trees can’t be harmed if the Lorax uses an ai agent to help him build ICBMs.
Or drones.
Should be corporate death penalty for that. Won’t be, but it absolutely should.
Hypersonic missiles? Are they using the Chinese and Russian definition? I know military commentary YouTube will have field day with this one
It really doesn’t need to be though. Let’s say he has a shitty little rocket.
Ok. So now lets shoot the rocket at the warship. Ok, it didn’t do much damage. Maybe it was even shot down by anti-air defenses. Now try shooting 900 of them at the ship. They’re cheap, they’re disposable. Sure, the anti-air might shoot a lot down, but you’re shooting down a $3 rocket with a 1 million dollar anti-air missile.
Even if you never hit the ship, you’re causing financial drain that cannot be sustained. You spend $10,000 on $3 rockets, fire them all off all day and all night, and the USA is using military grade defenses. That $10,000 might drain the USA half a billion dollars just to defend one ship.
Now scale that for every ship in the military. Little tiny unmanned rafts basically, shooting off cheap rockets at close range, and being defended by expensive ammo. All across the ocean. With the proper planning, you could probably drain the USA’s global navy in a day without sinking, or even hitting a single ship. All without losing anything at all.
Even more effective given that they’re probably shooting at civilian ships.
I’m not talking about making missiles or mass produced missiles or AI guided missiles. Hypersonic has an exact definition (Mach 5+) and calling something a hypersonic missile should set off your bullshit detector. In ballistic missile terms usually there is only a short portion of its flight that is hypersonic, but that doesn’t make it a hypersonic missile. The western definition of a hypersonic missile is sustained hypersonic flight in the atmosphere. Russia and China define hypersonic missiles as hypersonic at any point in their flight likely for propaganda purposes.
It’s only the bit right before it hits where in needs to be hypersonic, isn’t it? Fast enough to avoid interceptors. It’s why if Taiwan ever turns hot, the plan is for all the US navy boats to do a strategic retreat.
It’s only the bit right before it hits where in needs to be hypersonic, isn’t it?
No, that’s the China, Russia definition.
Fast enough to avoid interceptors.
Ballistic trajectories still have a long arc that makes it easier to detect and deploy countermeasures. It’s how patriot, iron dome, and other systems are allowed to work.

$3 rocket
This is ridiculous on its face. You’re talking $15k-$50k for such a missile. You can’t use model rocket engines. Hardware costs real money.
Still its crazy to think an average person could finance one. I’ve seen brokies in Texas with trucks they paid more than one of these rockets.

C’mon, we don’t need YouTube for this.
Moved to piefed.social
So, thanks, but…that was PugJesus’s alternative community. He’s the only mod, and he appears to have quit the Threadiverse a couple weeks ago.
Lamo, so where is the most active comm?

You guys think that I can use Claude to build a time machine out of a DeLorean?
I don’t know, but I’m willing to be your test passenger. Either my body is torn to shreds in the time loop, or I go back to 1985. I’m good with either option.
